Planning for our future

Cornwall Council want to hear from you about housing and life in Cornwall.

Cornwall will need to deliver more homes, business spaces and infrastructure over the coming years, and we know this raises important questions and concerns for many local people. By taking part in this survey, you can help shape the future of your community and ensure local priorities are better understood and reflected in planning decisions.

Your responses will help inform the Council’s new Local Plan, which sets out where development should happen and what it should look like. The information will also be shared with town and parish councils to help them prepare Neighbourhood Priority Statements (NPS), giving communities a stronger voice in identifying what matters most locally.

The feedback you provide will help us:

• Understand current and future housing needs across Cornwall

• Identify the types of homes that are most needed and where they should be located

• Understand what people value about their homes and communities

• Highlight local infrastructure, services, and transport priorities

• Inform how developer contributions (such as CIL and section 106 funding) are spent

Survey responses may also support work in related areas such as affordable housing, infrastructure, transport, and funding bids.

The survey starts with a set of essential questions about housing needs, followed by some optional questions about life in Cornwall. Most questions are tick‑box and can be completed quickly, with opportunities to add comments if you wish.

The survey covers:

• Who lives in your household – such as age and household makeup

• Your current housing situation – including home type, size, and tenure

• Future housing needs – whether you expect to move and what kind of home you might need

• Views on housing in your area – what should be built and where

• Design and quality – what features matter most in new homes

• Community and facilities – what you value, what’s missing, and how you travel

• Getting around – car ownership and travel choices

• Work and employment – including home working
